Making each other smile even though they’re broken up. That’s true love.

The part with Joan was really funny (I love Jamie Lee Curtis!) and also a little sad (because Jess turned to her mom for comfort and it didn’t help at all), but I just realized something about this scene. When Joan bemoans the fact that she’s never going to get grandchildren - like, that’s her first thought when she finds out about the breakup - we learn something about her; she assumed that Nick was it for Jess. She assumed that the two of them would get married, have kids, the whole thing; she thought Jess was done, that her future was solidified. Jess and Nick had thought so too; they even admitted it to each other. Even the loftmates (especially Schmidt) were shook up by the breakup because they didn’t envision an end for the two of them. For me, this episode dropped a whole load of hints that the two of them have a future together - they and everyone around them all knew it - and I think that’s setting them up for a period where they gradually realize that this is the case.

I woke up to people removing snow from their cars. What a lovely, lovely winter we’re having this spring
